Editing Bikers (section)

==[[Unknown Bikers]]==
The '''Unknown Bikers''' were a separate Williamsburg street gang and neighborhood club. A March 1978 ''New York Times'' report described approximately thirty Unknown Bikers in Williamsburg, wearing leather jackets and remodeling Schwinn bicycles with elongated forks to resemble motorcycles. It also described an abandoned building used by the group as a makeshift church.<ref name="NYT">[https://www.nytimes.com/1978/03/06/archives/true-story-of-city-gang-life-no-glittery-west-side-story-true-story.html “True Story of City Gang Life: No Glittery ‘West Side Story’”], ''The New York Times'', March 6, 1978.</ref>

A later oral-history account places the Unknown Bikers on a different section of Southside Williamsburg, extending from Union Avenue to Rodney Street and from Metropolitan Avenue toward South Fourth Street.<ref name="VICE" /> It records that Alicat began associating with the Unknown Bikers around 1975, became a member in 1976, and moved to the South 9 Bikers in early 1980. The movement of one person between clubs demonstrates association, not merger or command succession.<ref name="VICE" />

Later sources describe an Unknown Bikers motorcycle-club identity, but the founding date and continuity between the 1970s street club and later motorcycle club remain separate historical claims. The Unknown Bikers are not treated as a predecessor of Bikers NY.
