The documented nineteenth-century line begins with '''Pietro Magaddino''' (approximately 1823–1880) and '''Arcangela or Angela Ancona''' (born approximately 1830). Their children included Carmela and Giovanni Magaddino.

Carmela Magaddino married Martino Bonventre on July 14, 1876. Because Carmela was Joseph Bonanno's maternal grandmother and Giovanni was Stefano's father, Stefano Magaddino was Joseph Bonanno's '''first cousin once removed''', although sources often shorten the relationship to “cousin.”
