==Documented family line== The documented nineteenth-century line begins with '''Pietro Magaddino''' (approximately 1823β1880) and '''Arcangela or Angela Ancona''' (born approximately 1830). Their children included Carmela and Giovanni Magaddino. Carmela Magaddino married Martino Bonventre on July 14, 1876. Their daughter Caterina Bonventre later married Salvatore Bonanno and became the mother of Joseph Bonanno.<ref name="BonventreMarriage">[https://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/ark:/12657/an_ua16101093/wQqZ76l Castellammare del Golfo civil marriage act no. 66], July 14, 1876.</ref><ref>[https://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/ark:/12657/an_ua16107858/LpXjqyE Castellammare del Golfo civil birth act no. 174], March 1883.</ref> Carmela's brother Giovanni Magaddino married Giuseppa Ciaravino in 1882.<ref>[https://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/ark:/12657/an_ua16101107/037eEoY Castellammare del Golfo civil marriage act no. 129], December 16, 1882.</ref> Their children included Pietro, Gaspare, Stefano, Antonino and Maria Magaddino. Because Carmela was Joseph Bonanno's maternal grandmother and Giovanni was Stefano's father, Stefano Magaddino was Joseph Bonanno's '''first cousin once removed''', although sources often shorten the relationship to βcousin.β Pietro Magaddino (1883β1916), Giovanni's son, married Anna Buccellato in 1912.<ref>[https://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/ark:/12657/an_ua16101042/wkEVN6B Castellammare del Golfo civil marriage record], January 29, 1912.</ref> That marriage is important evidence that blood and marital relationships could cross the factional boundaries emphasized in later feud narratives.
