==Name and organization== “Lenox Avenue Gang” is a conventional historical and journalistic title. Later accounts place the group in Harlem and portray Horowitz as its leader. A 2014 ''New York Times'' historical column likewise called Horowitz leader of the feared Lenox Avenue Gang.<ref>[https://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/15/nyregion/who-was-gyp-the-blood.html “Who Was Gyp the Blood?”], ''The New York Times'', June 12, 2014.</ref> Contemporary legal decisions more often called the men “gunmen” than members of a formally named organization. The page therefore uses “gang or gunmen's crew” rather than projecting a corporate structure onto every relationship. The familiar spelling “Whitey Lewis” presents an identity problem. The New York Court of Appeals captioned the defendant '''Jacob Seidenshner''', while contemporary newspapers and later accounts also used Frank Muller or Müller.<ref name="Seidenshner">[https://law.counselstack.com/opinion/people-v-seidenshner-ny-1914 ''People v. Seidenshner'', 210 N.Y. 341, 104 N.E. 420] (N.Y. 1914).</ref> These names are retained as variants rather than silently treated as different gang members.
